Touch
Sensory processing of touch (tactile): over-responsive, under-responsive, or tactile-seeking patterns. Textures, clothing, and light touch. Practical ideas, not a substitute for OT assessment.
Tactile processing covers everything from seam placement in socks to how hugs feel. Some people need firm, predictable pressure; others find light touch startling. Clothing tags, wet hands, or sticky foods aren’t “small” if they drain your bandwidth all day. Strategies are personal, such as layering, compression, and different fabrics, and work best when matched to your context. A qualified occupational therapist can help when touch sensitivity affects sleep, school, work, or relationships.
